Montgomery Circuit Court Clerk Company Information

Bendra informacija

Montgomery County, located in southwestern Virginia, is home to 94,392 residents in its 393 square miles. (The Weldon Cooper Center's 2011 population estimate at 94,796 residents is slightly higher than the 2010 census.)

The County - which is home to two of the state's five largest towns, Blacksburg and Christiansburg - is a high-tech community strategically located on the Interstate 81 corridor.

The County is located within a day’s drive of two-thirds of the country's population and close to Interstates 81, 77 and 64, and U.S Routes 460 and 11. Transportation options including public bus, commercial air, rail and freight. Roanoke is 40 miles to the east; Washington, D.C., is 275 miles to the northeast; and Norfolk is 291 miles east.

Montgomery County traces its origin to 1776 when it was formed and named after General Richard Montgomery, an American hero of the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. The first settlement, Draper's Meadow, was established in the 1740s but was destroyed by Shawnee Indians during the French and Indian War.

Christiansburg, the county seat, was incorporated in 1792 and named in honor of Colonel William Christian. This community was an important stop on the Wilderness Road, which roughly corresponds to the present day U.S. Route 11.

As the retail hub of the County, Christiansburg is host to several shopping centers and restaurants. Major chain stores include Belk, JCPenney, Sears, Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, TJ Maxx, Barnes and Noble and Grand Home Furnishings. Restaurants include O’Charley’s, Outback Steakhouse, Shakers, Red Lobster, Applebee's and Cracker Barrel.

Blacksburg was incorporated in 1871. The town originated on tracts of land donated by William Black - for whom it was named - and was established at the same site as the previous settlement of Draper's Meadow.

Blacksburg is the largest town in Virginia and home to Virginia Tech, one of the nation’s leading educational institutions and research universities. The town is also home to the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, which in 23 buildings has more than 140 companies employing 2,000 people.

Graduates from area colleges and universities add to the abundant, educated workforce to make a pro-business community with a solid mix of high-tech, manufacturing, retail and professional services - including a variety of Fortune 500 firms.
